A Pioneer in Both Business and Football
Erik Stallemo (1935–2011) was an influential Norwegian shipbroker, sports leader, and a pioneer in the football agency industry. His life and work left a lasting mark – in the business world, in football, and most significantly, in IK Start.
Shipbroker and Business Leader
Erik began his career in 1950 as an office assistant at Johan G. Olsen. With clear drive and expertise, he quickly advanced to department head. He later founded his own firm, Stallemo Partners, and in 1987 became CEO of Westshore Shipbrokers, eventually chairing its board from 2007. He was a key figure in the development of the shipbroking industry in both Kristiansand and Stavanger.
Sports Leader at IK Start
Stallemo became a member of IK Start shortly after World War II and served as club chairman during two important periods: 1962–1965 and 1992–1995. However, his most influential role was as head of the football committee from 1976 to 1981, a golden era for the club, during which Start won the league championship in 1978 and 1980. In 2005, he was rightfully named an Honorary Member of the club.
Norway’s First Football Agent
Erik Stallemo is considered Norway’s first football agent. He was an early pioneer in professionalizing player negotiations and transfers, representing prominent names such as Svein Mathisen, Rune Bratseth, Arne Dokken, Frank Strandli, Arne Larsen Økland, and Åge Hareide. His groundbreaking work helped set new standards for how players were represented both nationally and internationally.
Key Achievements
As a football leader, he helped guide IK Start to two league titles (1978 and 1980), remembered as a strong, decisive, and unifying figure.
As an agent, he laid the foundation for professional player transfers in Norway and built a vast network with clubs across Europe.
In the shipping industry, he played a crucial role in strengthening and developing the maritime business community in both Kristiansand and Stavanger.
Erik Stallemo’s life is a lasting example of dedication, vision, and passion – both on and off the pitch. He will always hold a place of honor in the history of IK Start.
