Here is an overview of what happened to the club from 1905 to 1914, with possible links to more information.

Annonse:

The club was formally founded and named on September 19, 1905: Fodboldklubben Start.

There is otherwise scant information recorded from the early years. Reinholdt Samuelsen, who has been involved from the start, once stated:

- We were just boys and had no idea that even small things could be important

Nevertheless: According to old records, the first football club in Kristiansand was founded under the name Christianssands Fotballklubb on April 29, 1891. It continued in Ørvarodd, which began in 1899 or 1900 - and which in 1902 at Gimlemoen managed to play 0 - 0 against Odd, Skien. Then came the boys' club Gyldenløve. It took the initiative for the merger with other boys' clubs that resulted in Fodboldklubben Start.

Start choosed to play in white kits, white shirt, pants and socks.

Among those who helped found the football club Start are:
Arne Johnsen, Gunvald Olsen, Reinholdt Samuelsen, Einar Torjesen, Samuell Bugge, Jørgen Jensen, Emil Torstensen, Ole Tobias Thorstensen, Laurits Larsen, Gustav and Martin Eriksen, Håkon Endresen, Martin Pettersen, Toralf Rødland, Ingemann Rasmussen, Martin Endresen, Rolf Mangnusdal, Einar Kristiansen, Jørg Hagen, Thomas Svendsen, Engh.

Håkon Frøstrup was the man who introduced the game of football to Kristiansand in the 1890s. He brought it with him from a stay in England

The first chairman was Aabert Johnsen.
Then came Ole Tobias Torstensen, Gunvald Olsen, Samuel Bugge, Haakon Endreson and Johan Johansen who served as chairman until his death in 1919.

It must also be mentioned that factory owner Jacob Lauridsen contributed financially despite economically difficult times.

In 1909, the football club Donn was founded in Kristiansand

In 1912, Start included athletics on its program with its own branch board

On a national basis, the Norwegian Football Association (NFF) was founded in 1902 and the association became a member of the international football federation (FIFA) in 1908.

The Cup match against Fram Larvik in 1912 where Start suffered their biggest loss in an official match at home was commented on by the local newspaper Fædreelandsvennen:
»The referee was the editor of Fotballforbundets Avis, stud.jur, Torgersen, Kristiania»
and after a nice report a summary:
»Starts team has benefited from the Match. It showed that they still have a lot to learn, but also that they are very teachable and will certainly become more dangerous competitors at the Norwegian Championships than they were yesterday»

Football had started to take hold in Norway

Grane was beaten twice, 6–0 and 4–0.
Flekkefjord Football Club suffered a crushing defeat, 13–0.
Kristiansands Football Club met the same fate, with Start winning 8–1.

1912 – Start wins the first district championship and qualifies for the first round of the cup. But they are knocked out by Fram (Larvik) in Start’s very first cup match, which ends 9–1 to Fram.

1913 – only two league matches: win against Kristiansands FK 10–0, and win against Grane 10–0.
New cup run, against Ørn Horten. But due to the long travel distance, Start withdraws and loses the match.

1914 – match for the district championship title against Grane. Draw and a replay after the summer, but by then the shots in Sarajevo had started the First World War.
Start’s players were called up for military service and Grane became district champions.
