IK Start in the period 1915 -1924
Here is an overview of what happened to the club from 1915 to 1924, with possible links to more information.
The First World War had started, but Norway managed to stay out of the hostilities.
Thus, the sport could continue as before. After the war, however, the infamous "Spanish flu" came and took many lives, also in Norway.
At the general meeting in 1916, the name was changed from Fodboldklubben Start to Idrætsklubben Start. But the economy was still a limiting factor. The Gimlebanen field where the game took place did not have a fence around it, or stands for the audience.
So it was not easy to charge an entrance fee.
Together with other sports teams, they worked against Kristiansand municipality for a new sports field, but the alternatives were in Oddernes municipality, which was the "wrong" municipality.
The Danish factory owner Jacob Lauridsen was good to have. He could be asked for money and often came with unsolicited subsidies. He was appointed an honorary member in 1946.
In the winter of 1918, Start performed a number of amateur plays (!) to help the economy a little. It reportedly went beyond all expectations both artistically and financially.[related_articles _document="__macroDocument1"/]
The same year (1918) a new football club was founded in Kristiansand; Vigør.
Start submits an application to the football association to be allowed to play in new kits: Yellow top, black pants and black socks. And is allowed to change for the 1919 season.
Start wins 10-2 over Donn in the second round of the 1919 Norwegian Championship
In the 1919 season, Start takes its sixth district championship in what was the last competition administered by the Sørlandske football club.
The football association adopts a new district division and now Sørlandet is divided into two football clubs: Aust-Agder and Vest-Agder.
The Vest-Agder football club is then founded in 1920 and Start no longer meets Grane in league games. But Donn, Mandalskameratene and Flekkefjord
Start became the first district champions in Vest-Agder in 1920 after two even matches against Donn (1–1 and 2–0).
In 1921, Kristiansand municipality allocated funds for a "provisional sports field at Møllevannet", so something began to happen. On June 10, 1924, the sports field was put into serious use when Start played against a team from the British battleship "Thunderer" and won 2-1.
------
Johan Johansen was elected chairman in 1912 and served for six years, until he died of the Spanish flu in 1919. He was succeeded by Einar Torjesen (19), Ingemann Topstad (20, 22), Alf Malterud (21) and Erling Svendsen (23, 24).
International: St. Petersburg, Russia is renamed from Petrograd to Leningrad and IBM is founded in the USA. In Norway, Odd becomes the Norwegian Cup champion in football after beating Mjøndalen 3–0 in the final.
